Will existing names be retained?
Yes. This project aims to retain existing Kaurna and English language names where they apply. The names proposed here will be used in addition to those existing names. Park numbers will be phased out.
Will Council redo all the signs it has installed throughout the Park Lands?
The signage in the Park Lands has been designed for easy upgrade and replacement of written material. However, it is unlikely that all new names will be applied immediately. As new signs are rolled out and as signs need replacement, the new names will be added. In the meantime, the new names will be used in other material produced by the City of Adelaide (e.g. online).
What are the Guiding Principles?
The Guiding Principles are the approach adopted by the Naming Committee and are as follows:
1 Use of translations of existing Kaurna names, where meaningful to that Park
2 If not, consider names associated with park features, indigenous flora and fauna, other characteristics, history or use of the area
3 If nothing appropriate is available, consider names of famous/influential people, or people who have a strong connection with the City or State (seeking a gender balance).

3 The road south of Adelaide High School east/west across the Park (Ellis Park Road).
The Naming Committee also considered the naming of the colloquially known “Uni Loop” in Warnpangga (Park 10), proposed to be called Robert Crouch Running Loop.
