Gawler Place Upgrade

Status: Concept Design

The City of Adelaide is committed to the upgrade of Gawler Place as an extension of the 2011 Master Plan for Rundle Mall and a key priority as part of the City of Adelaide 2016-2020 Strategic Plan.

Together with Rundle Mall Management Authority (RMMA) and traders, Council is working towards a Concept Design for the upgrade of Gawler Place North (from North Terrace to Rundle Mall) and Gawler Place South (Rundle Mall to Grenfell Street).

Community Engagement

Council is currently working on a concept design for Gawler Place, North and South of Rundle Mall.

The concept design for the upgrade of Gawler Place is by no means fixed and Council has not endorsed any outcome.

The Gawler Place team are currently meeting with several key stakeholders to gain insight into the street and gather their feedback to inform the Design process and help provide a successful outcome for all users of Gawler Place.

A more formal community engagement will take place in May 2017 to gather feedback from the wider community on the concept design.

Detailed Design and Construction

Following on from community engagement and once Council has endorsed the final concept design, a detailed design will be developed and construction is likely to commence in January 2018.

Council and Rundle Mall Management Authority (RMMA) we will work closely with owners and occupiers during the construction process to minimise the impact on businesses, and implement visible “business as usual” signage.

We are planning for construction to avoid peak periods, especially Christmas, however, the festival period in March 2018 may be impacted. Timing will be confirmed closer to the date.
