Consultation has concluded.

On 25 May 2018, Council received notification that the Minister for Planning has resolved to refuse the DPA. This means that the 9 nominated Local Heritages Places will not be listed. You can view the letter here.

Council remains committed to protecting the City's heritage assets whilst enabling adequate development opportunities.

Council is continuing to work with the new Government to ensure our City’s heritage assets are adequately protected and adaptively reused.

Background

As a part of the North Adelaide Large (Institutions and Colleges) DPA, a number of submissions were received that sought nine (9) buildings to be Heritage Places. Council has negotiated with the Minister for Planning for a consultation process to be undertaken to consider the proposed Local Heritage Places.

The buildings proposed to be listed as Local Heritage Places include:

A. Calvary Hospital – Mortuary building fronting Strangways Terrace

B. Lutheran Church of Australia – Lohe Hall

C. St Mark’s College – Chapel/Former Stable

D. Kathleen Lumley College: Six Finniss Street Cottages

A Public Hearing was held at the Adelaide Town Hall at 5:30 pm on Thursday 10 August 2017. The purpose of the public meeting was to enable interested persons or organisations to verbally present to Council any further matters that they believe should be considered in the draft DPA. The meeting did not have a debating role or a decision-making capacity. Councillors asked questions of persons who addressed the meeting.

On 26 September 2017, Council considered the submissions following consultation. You can view the report and the decision.

Following consultation, Council returned the Development Plan Amendment to the Minister for Planning. You can view the Council's Development Plan Amendment here.

Council has considered the submissions and made proposed amendments to the DPA. The State Planning Commission will consider the Local Heritage Nominations in due course. This will enable the Minister for Planning to make the final determination of the Development Plan Amendment.
