Update

In response to Council’s endorsement of a 12-month car parking trial, the parking controls in the Rymill Park Car Park will be amended from 1 October 2018 through to 30 September 2019. It is proposed that these changes will provide greater access to Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka and also the Adelaide Bowling Club on Wednesdays from 1 October 2018 to 31 March 2019, which covers their bowling season.

Going forward Council will continue to change the permit times on an annual basis in line with the Bowling season.

We now seek to understand how you use this public car park during the week, evenings and weekends and if these changes affect your usage of this car park.

    Background

A request was received from the Adelaide Bowling Club (the Club) in January 2017 to review the current parking conditions in the public car park in Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka with access from Dequetteville Terrace. The key issue raised by the Club included the lack of parking spaces with adequate time limits available for visitors to use the bowling club facilities and that many visitors park on the eastern side of Dequetteville Terrace. This sees a large group of visitors cross over six lanes of traffic on foot to attend games on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the bowling game season (October-March).

Council considered this matter at its meeting of 28 March 2017 and resolved to approve a consultation to determine how the Rymill Car Park might best be used to facilitate both member and visitor access for the Club and visitor access to Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka.

Following this three-week consultation, Council later resolved to trial the car parking changes during the bowling season (October-March), to gain a greater understanding of what the benefits and impacts would be to the community and if the community would support these changes on a more permanent basis.
