Consultation has concluded

The Market to Riverbank link project is a $14.6 million joint investment project between the City of Adelaide and the State Government (through Renewal SA) to upgrade Bank Street, Leigh Street, Topham Mall, Bentham Street and Pitt Street.

This initiative will create an exciting and vibrant thoroughfare between the Adelaide Central Market and the Adelaide Riverbank. These important connecting streets provide a significant route for more than 15,000 locals and tourists on a daily basis. The upgrade of the small streets and laneways that connect the Market District through the city core and Adelaide Railway Station to the Riverbank is a major priority for the city.

The link will offer a more intimate route for pedestrians and cyclists to and from the Market District and the Adelaide Riverbank, including the upgrade of Festival Plaza and Station Road. It will feature upgrades that include new paving, lighting, trees, landscaping, street furniture, public art and a program of activation.

During the 'How do you like your Laneways' consultation in April 2016, you told us what was important to you regarding the future of these Laneways.

From here, we have developed designs taking into consideration the top 5 themes you shared with us:

  • Greenery, trees, grass
  • Limiting car access, pedestrian priority
  • Lighting, nice lighting
  • Public art, street art
  • Atmosphere, vibrancy, character, buzzing, lively.
