Update

At the Council meeting held on 30 January 2018, Council resolved that:

The proposed commercial helipad located in Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli (Park 27) does not proceed based on the independent helipad assessment, expert opinion; and recommendations provided in this report, and continues to pursue opportunities for the development of a commercial helipad in the City of Adelaide.

Based on this decision, the proposed commercial helipad in Bonython Park will not proceed.

The Administration will continue to work with the industry and developers on an alternative site in the City.

  • Project background and information

In February 2017, the Adelaide Park Lands Authority (APLA) and Council provided in-principle approval for a commercial helipad to be located in the Adelaide Park Lands in Park 27 west of Morphett Street Bridge, between the rail corridor and the River Torrens (see Images 1 & 2).

Community consultation for the lease proposal took place over a three-week period in June/July 2017 in line with the Local Government Act 1999 and the City of Adelaide’s Public Communication and Consultation Policy. To read about the feedback received please click here to view the consultation pack.

As the proposed use is not identified in the Community Land Management Plan (CLMP) for Park 27, the CLMP needs to be amended to reflect the commercial helipad proposal before a lease arrangement can be entered into.

    Project Information

The purpose of this consultation is to seek community feedback on the proposed amendment to the CLMP for Park 27 to reference a commercial helipad on the area of land west of Morphett Street Bridge.

If, following consideration of the feedback from consultation, Council chooses to support the amendment to the CLMP, the CLMP will be amended to reflect the proposed use. The proposal will then proceed to the next stage of required approvals and lease negotiations.

Alternatively, if Council does not support the amendment to the CLMP, the project will not proceed in this location.
