Have your say on SA's future planning system

South Australia’s urban and regional planning system is currently undergoing its biggest reform in over 25 years. A key element of this reform is the creation of a single State-wide planning rule book, the Planning and Design Code (P&D Code). The P&D Code will replace all Development Plans across the State.

The State Planning Commission (the Commission) is responsible for preparing, consulting and implementing the P&D Code across the State. In late 2018 the Commission announced that the Code would be implemented in three phases:

The Commission is responsible for consultation on the P&D Code and all responses should be submitted to the Commission via the SA Planning Portal. To assist our community, the City of Adelaide will post regular updates to this page including our submissions to each consultation.     The Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure has announced that in response to community feedback, the closing date for submissions on the draft State Planning Policies has been extended to Friday 21 September 2018.     The State Planning Commission has announced plans to convene a Community Engagement Panel to review the draft State Planning Policies that will be delivered as part of the state-wide planning reforms.

    You can register you interest in being a part of this panel and provide your views on these and future state-wide planning reforms by emailing DPTI.PlanningEngagement@sa.gov.au.

  • Planning Reform Drop-in Sessions

    The State Government is holding a number of Open House Drop-in Sessions to give people the opportunity to talk to a senior member of the Planning Reform team. These sessions are programmed to coincide with the release of each of the key papers for consultation.

    On 6 August 2018 the State Planning Commission released two further policy discussion papers on Integrated Movement Systems and Natural Resources and Environment.

    The intent of these papers is to recommend policies for the new Planning and Design Code (which will replace the 72 existing Development Plans) and to stimulate conversation about the proposed direction.

    Both discussion papers are open for feedback until 3 December 2018.

    On Monday 16 July 2018 the State Planning Commission on behalf of the Minister for Planning released the Consultation: Draft State Planning Policies for South Australia.

    The paper presents a suite of draft State Planning Policies which cover a number of themes such as integrated planning, design quality, adaptive reuse, biodiversity, climate change, housing supply, heritage, energy, emissions, employment lands etc. Ultimately, the State Planning Policies will be the highest order policy document in South Australia’s planning system and will provide the framework for land use planning and development that aims to improve the liveability, sustainability and prosperity of South Australia.

    The Discussion Paper is open for feedback until 7 September 2018.
