What is Adelaide International Tennis?

The inaugural Adelaide International event in 2020 saw the return of ATP and WTA tennis to Adelaide with a sense of nostalgia and a massive amount of anticipation. The Adelaide International showcases some of the world’s best tennis players in a combined men’s and women’s event, all played live at The Drive. The event is also broadcast globally reaching around 200 territories and is domestically delivered into our lounge rooms through Channel 9. The Drive comes to life with a dedicated Kids and Family Zone out the back at Next Generation, the entertainment zone at Pinky Flat with bars, food, entertainment and activations, plus the undercover Centre Court, Showcourt, and further 5 match courts around the site. Plus there is live music every day with the Racquets and Strings Festival, and dedicated themed days with the Kids Day Monday 8 January, All Abilities Day Wednesday 10 January and Pride Day Thursday 11 January.

Tennis Australia are seeking to close part of War Memorial Drive for a period of time in January for the 2024 Adelaide International (in line with the previous closures in 2022). Pedestrian access and an alternate cyclist pathway would be maintained around the event site. The road closure is needed for safe ingress and egress for the event, the safety for our fans and staff and the community is our priority. It is important our event provides a welcoming, inclusive, healthy, and safe environment for event patrons and staff, a road closure will be needed to achieve this.

How will stakeholders be notified of this event?

If the event is approved all residents and businesses residing in the surrounding area will be notified of the upcoming event via a letterbox drop organised by the event organiser two weeks prior to the event. Included in the letter will be details of expected noise, road closure details and an event hotline telephone number.

This event hotline telephone number is provided by the event organiser should a member of the public wish to lodge any feedback or concerns during the event.

Additionally, City of Adelaide upload details of upcoming, approved events on it’s Event Dashboard  - https://www.cityofadelaide.com.au/community/spaces-rooms-venues-to-hire/upcoming-events/

Would fixed businesses remain accessible during the Adelaide International Tennis?

Yes, while the road will be closed to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will still be able to access the businesses on a portion of War Memorial Drive and the event organisers will ensure walking access to existing premises is maintained.

Will commercial vehicles be able to service businesses within the road closures?

During the road closure no vehicles (authorised vehicles exempt) will be able to access the closed portion of road.
