Edward said about Hutt StreetAlready great but widen footpaths and slow down traffic. See Prospect Road. Ignore the knockers. Place bike lanes between parked cars and the pavement. Much safer that way.

I like the idea of bike lanes between parked cars and the foot path. That's brilliant!

Edward said about Gouger StreetThere is a busy pedestrian crossing outside the market entrance and leading to Coglin Street. Put up signs requiring drivers to stop whenever a person is waiting to cross. Too many people are inconvenienced for the sake of a few cars.

In principle, I love the idea of laneway activation. I wonder whether we should find Adelaide's own niche and invest in this - maybe we have something different that would set us apart from Melbourne!

  • Have a Chat about 8 years ago
Let's not be so worried about the risk when doing events/activites in public spaces - this often shuts down new and creative projects! Why can't we have hot air balloon rides in Victoria Square :)? I've seen it abroad, so I know it can work.

Fiona said about Rundle StreetI would like to see more diversity and variety in the types of traders in this area so that it isn't just a high end dining strip.
  • Picture Adelaide Comment about 8 years ago
Fiona said about Central Market / North Terrace LinkMore laneways closed to traffic and encouraging of street art would make this a popular destination, and a showpiece for people visiting the city.
  • tommwhite about 8 years ago
I think we should be less precious about our parklands and use the space for leisure, culture and fun with regular exhibitions, galleries and shows. Mobile food and seating would attract families and like-minded people to the areas making our parklands safe and accessible. The parklands are lovely in winter but look dreadful in the height of summer. It was great going to the plant and flower show in the parklands a few years ago - rather than the pavillions at the showgrounds.
  • Picture Adelaide Comment about 8 years ago
Mark said about Creative FutureAdelaide needs a Frisbee Golf Course, otherwise known as Disk Golf. The Adelaide Parklands are a perfect place for a course meandering around the parklands, with bars, cafes and shops selling/hireing disks and handing out course maps and score cards.

User said about Victoria SquareGO to Melbourne on a friday night upstairs at the Riverside Hotel off flinders St. THe place is called the Deck. Open air beer garden that works so much better than the gallry on Waymouth. Do this with Victoria Square as the backdrop. If not a beer garden then an open air move theatre.
  • Picture Adelaide Comment about 8 years ago
User said about Creative FutureMake it the funkiest street in Adelaide. It has the most potential with its proximity to Nth Adelaide. Has diversity in the residents that come and live there. A real bohemian fell can be supercharged with open air beer gardens or theatres etc.

Margaret said about Creative FutureI like the idea of making some streets more inviting to walk or cycle along where small businesses can thrive, but I don't want to see every bit of the city trying to be an entertainment precinct. We need quieter residential areas as well where people can enjoy summer nights with open windows without being bombarded with extremely loud music from bars and from refridgerated airconditioners until the early hours of the morning.

There are several UofA buildings that come into that category. The Napier building is another one (though modern inside). Sadly, considering the upgrades to the lifts and the construction of the Learning Hub attached to the Hughes building I don't see that going anywhere any time soon. I do agree though, Adelaide uni has some beautiful architecture but it's all hidden by the few hideous buildings from (slightly) more recent years.

Jeremy said about TransportThis space is currently used to feed horses but could be an ampitheatre concert space bringing life to the Melbourne Street and O'Connell Street precincts
  • michelle_h27 about 8 years ago
I often go to the Arts Theatre on Angas St, which is next to the Royalty Theatre. Both are major Fringe venues but there is no disabled parking nearby. A lack of affordable carparking in this area also deters people from attending theatrical events because people don't like using public transport at night because it is considered to be dangerous in the city at night.
  • Picture Adelaide Comment about 8 years ago
User said about Creative FutureYes it is a great concept but we need to deregulate liquor licensing regulations to enable the modern hospitality precinct that is described. I can only hope that we get there.

Wayne said about Creative FutureOK-concept looks good-- However you are missing many existing oportunities that don't necessarily cost a lot of money. Our heritage buildings could be much better flood -lit at night -- ie -- old parliament house from the west side, - old churches --The old Church of Christ buil;ding in Grote St is a disgrace with the new incongruent bus staion next to it -- This is appalling planning and does nothing for our city or our heritage buildingsi--There is much that can be done without necessarily expecting a costly plan to fix council blunders.Holy Trinity Church on North Tce could also be better lit as could most heritage buildings in King William street and the southern side of North Tce.. I hear that that Adelaide Town Hall Organ concert series may be scaled back in 2012 to our (Seniors event)simply because council is ineffective in advertising and organising recitals from international organists who are very keen to play our expensive and international standard instrument... This is an iconic and expensive intrument in mint condition going to waste . The corporate sponsors of this instrument would hardly want to be involved in future projects if council do not have the initiative to manage and promote existing creative assets.. New buildings (particularly commerical ones) need to leave some space in front for a tree or other landscaping as some do in our other capital cities. - some European CBD churches have heritage cemeteries and gardens surrounding their magnificent buildings. -Why are Adelaide developers permitted to use every cm of the land available to them without a community contribution to landscaping,, sculpture and fountains.- wouldn't a sculpture or fountain look great on each street corner as sometimes occurs in European cities? Only a few sq metres would need to be sacificed for this to happen.Rundle Mall needs to exude much more class if we are going to showcase it.- Amplified music from CD shops and preachers should not be permitted. - More classy entertainment,,, open space, alfresco vine covered lanes would loosen up a very sterile and common street. The long term plan for North Tce should be to place traffic underground from Parliament House to the Botanic Gardens. -this would allow us to show case the North Tce cultural area without busy traffic belching fumes.. North Tce could then become an alfresco plaza for cafes and art displays etc.. Can the Adelaide Town Hall have regular guided tours -- Many Adelaide people have never entered the Adelaide Town Hall and overseas visitors would welcome a chance to view it inside! We have much to offer but bypass opportunities in search of expensive and trendy options which seldom seem to hit the ground..In summary -- more inertia please and less academia.!

User said about Creative FutureYes not bad. Once again bikes & pedestrians & at night??? Does look a bit seedy in some areas. Lighting must be adequate & no little poorly lit side streets that encourage lurking etc. The art work needs to be closely monitored otherwise it is going to look like a ghetto. Needs a lot of thought as it will not attract visitors if it does not look safe with apparent security & adequate lighting. Easy movement for pedestrians would be a priority.

Nick said about Creative FutureGood luck with this enabling process. Leigh St is a blueprint for success (and it itself could go further). In my opinion funding towards projects like these is much more important than Rundle Mall.

Gemma said about Creative FutureWhat do you think? Allow permanent structures to increase availability of Vic Park Circuit for cycling, solar challenge, pedal prix etc.. currently unusable due to Clipsal 500 for 8 months of the year. This should not be allowed to contuinue, the parklands will then be activated on a more regular basis! Permanent structures will not detract and from a long term perspective they can always be removed should Clispal 500 cease to operate.

Shaggy said about Creative FutureIt is a great idea, however if the Adelaide City Council could not keep the Rundle Street Market open how can we trust that such a great transformation will actually happen? I know it has been closed for a while now but I still miss being able to walk on the road reserved for cars every other day of the week and look at all the lovely crafts and wares. Keeping markets such as these going will be integral to creating city hotspots and creative hubs. So I hope the council is ready to put in alot of work. And maybe support the establishment of new markets in prime locations.

User said about Creative Futuresuch a unique spot of Adelaide, and there is so much talent in the west end. I think the talent should hold its future, not the council. To have artists/designers shape a place in Adelaide would be so unique and really change the now average and run down west end! please do this!!
  • Picture Adelaide Comment about 8 years ago
User said about Creative Futureit is moving in the right step, the government really need to fund artist's and designers to create a collaborative space for everyone to enjoy! with no government restraints and decisions! the creative people in Adelaide need something unique to be proud of! I studied graphic design and am an artist, and now most of the people I studied with are living overseas or in Melbourne! unfortunately, Adelaide is not proud of our art culture, because it is the government who are making the final decisions and not the artists and designers themselves! please make this happen, it could radically change the so many peoples' perspective of Adelaide and its Arts culture!!!
  • Fliss about 8 years ago
Can we have a theatre? A real theatre with proscenium arch, drop down curtain, apron, cyclorama, wings, decent dressing rooms, sound equipment, lights, etc. that is actually feasibly usable for community groups (i.e. not the $30,000 a day that the Festival theatre requires) It doesn't have to be big seating-wise so long as the stage is big enough to dance on. Adelaide currently does not have one of these theatres. Anything resembling this that is currently around is in such poor repair that it could collapse at any time. There are many community groups and schools that are looking for such a theatre and would use one regularly.

Marty said about Creative FutureHi there ACC, thanks for taking the time to read this. I am a Restaurant trader in the ACC and have been for over 8 years. I have been involed with multiple Hospitality businesses for 17 years. I employ over 50 people and hopefully bring happiness to the guest and customers i serve. My questions are; Why does it take so long to get things through the ACC? Why don't you speak to the traders/people who are here doing it more? Do you really want to see Adelaide better then the eastern states? I notice on this web site that in the "Creative Future" part it reads; Arts, Festivals, Laneways and Rooftops etc etc Funny that cause i have a Development Application with the ACC in relation to a Rooftop. It was lodged months ago and still nothing has been done. I have filled out ALL required documents for this and wanted it for use Dec 2011 but NOTHING. You ask to "Help shape the future of your city" and this is what I get!!! Thanks for your time. Hopefully someone that can solve our problems can respond this. Regards, Marty

Lee said about Creative FutureYes, we need bike stations where to pump them and fix them as well as to park them safely. Bus stops need to tell us in real time when is the next one coming and which one to catch according to our destination. We should be able to buy monthly and yearly public transport cards that work in any mass transport (bus, tram, metro, etc) We need to stop using fossil fuels and use/promote and research/develop alternative forms of energy. Buy back the buried patented inventions hidden by the petrochemical industry. Bring out the research from tesla and others who were ahead on the alternative energy area. See Thrive the movie for more ideas.

Mattmiles said about Creative FutureDevelop Elder park facilities so events can utilise it more effectively - establish a permanent stage and roof so al the events don't have to erect one over and over - establish more power - especially on King William road dont worry about this for Victoria square - its too small for major events a federation square type development could be placed in between the festival centre and parliament house were those old sculptures are currently - this could include a outdoor screen permanently
  • Dario about 8 years ago
A creative future along Melbourne Street will be very limited with it remaining simply a traffic corridor. We need State Government planning to resolve this - otherwise the council is wasting its time.
