What is an Asset Management Plan?

The Asset Management Plan outlines Council’s overall direction, priorities and targets in terms of infrastructure maintenance and delivery, including the delivery of associated customer services.

    Why is the Plan needed?

As a growing City there is a clear need for a planned, systematic approach towards key infrastructure asset maintenance, upgrade and associated service delivery to ensure Council allocates limited resources to areas of greatest need.

The aim is to take into account community appetites, in line with the available budget and Council’s long term strategic priorities identified in Adelaide's 2012 - 2016 Strategic Plan.

In addition Council has a legislative responsibility to review and develop a new Asset Management Plan in line with local government electoral cycles, within two years of an election taking place. The most recent local government election was held in November 2014. This requirement is stipulated Section 122 (1a) Local Government Act 1999.

When can I see the Plan?

Council is currently in early stages of developing the draft Plan and is seeking input from the community to ensure all views are considered and proposed future strategies reflect local needs.

The complete draft Asset Management Plan will be formally exhibited for public comment in early 2016.

    What is this consultation about?

This consultation is about ensuring the community has the opportunity to comment at the outset and remain involved throughout the planning process while developing the draft Asset Management Plans.

Council understands that the only way we can effectively manage our assets is by partnering with the ultimate users of our infrastructure and services - our community.

Adelaide City Council is committed to remaining attuned to community views, aiming to understand and act on local sentiment and deliver better, more sustainable outcomes, for generations to come.

I have previously provided feedback on similar topics. How is this different?

We heard what many people love about the city and what you want to see in the future through the feedback provided during Picture Adelaide and Shape the Park Lands. This has provided a good understanding on the community's view on the management of our assets.

From this work we understand that our infrastructure needs to meet changing community demands. You also said that asset management including cleaning and maintenance is fundamental to the effective functioning, feel and attractiveness of the city and needs to be maintained to the highest possible standard.

To fulfil our community’s aspirations we will be developing the standard of maintenance through this upcoming engagement.
