Will there be a loss of parking?

Yes, the loading zones in this location will be removed. Service vehicles to the adjacent properties will be allowed to park within the closed area during agreed times. However, there may be an opportunity now and, in the future, to turn underutilised timed parking spaces in the general vicinity into loading zones.

Why is only a small section of Chesser Street being upgraded?

The upgrade is being funded by the property owners immediately adjacent this section of road and not by Council.

Will the road be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.

Yes, the road, although closed to motor vehicles in general, is still a public road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists is required to be maintained unless permission from Council is granted to hold an event or activity that may require them to detour to nearby streets during the event or activity.

    When will the closure start?

If approved by Council, the closure will commence when works begin in the second half of 2021.

What if works commence and the building owners fail to complete the works?

The building owners are required to enter into an agreement and provide bank guarantees to ensure that the works could be completed without utilising Council funds
