Why will the road be closed?
The Carols by Candlelight event was last held in Elder Park in 2019. Traditionally King William Road was closed every year on the day of the Carols by Candlelight event, to enable the event to setup necessary infrastructure on the road, as well as to provide an adequate level of safety for the large number of people attending the event.
Would Festival Drive remain accessible during the Carols by Candlelight road closures?
Festival Drive access from King William Road will be closed from 6am on Sunday 11 December until 2am on Monday 12 December. Access to the businesses, carpark and services in Festival Drive will be via Montefiore Road during this road closure period.
Can I still get into the City via King William Road?
Public traffic can still travel South down King William Road into the City until 3:30pm on Sunday 11 December, when the road will then be closed until 11:30pm.
Southbound bus access will be maintained until 10pm.
