Why integrate the Adelaide Connector and 99C bus services?
When operated individually, the Adelaide Connector and 99C City Loop bus services do not meet the desired frequency, coverage or hours of operation that a modern City requires. Combining the resources of Council and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will create a new free City connector bus service that meets the needs of the community, workers, students and visitors of Adelaide.
The service will
also provide an exciting opportunity for Council and the Department of
Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to develop a high-quality public
transport service connecting key destinations within the City and North
Adelaide, and meeting a shared vision of a vibrant and accessible city.
Why is a new bus stops required on Tynte Street East?
The Tynte Street precinct is an important destination for City Connector passengers. Many users access the residential areas of North Adelaide, the Glover Playground and the North Adelaide Primary School from this stop.
Why is a new bus stop required on Tynte Street West?
The Tynte Street precinct is an important destination for the City Connector bus service. A number of passengers of the service use this stop to access the Post Office, Library and Community Centre. The stop is also close to the O’Connell Street entertainment and business precinct.
Why is a new bus stop required on Jerningham Street?
The Melbourne Street precinct is an important destination for the City Connector bus service. The current temporary bus stop in Finniss Street is not suitable as a permanent location as it is not positioned close enough to the Melbourne Street precinct. The new stop is required to be located on Jerningham Street between Finniss Street and Stanley Street.
Why do some of the new bus stop locations need to remove on-street parking?
Council is legislated by the State Government Disability Discrimination Act to provide accessible bus stops for mobility and vision impaired passengers. Bus stops are required to be designed to allow a bus to stop parallel with the kerb. A level boarding area is also required around the front and middle bus doors to permit mobility and vision impaired passengers to board and alight safely. To facilitate these requirements, bus stops need to be longer and require more kerb space.
Will any further reviews of the City Connector bus service be undertaken?
Yes, the Council and DPTI will conduct a 6-month review of the City Connector bus service to improve the service provided. This review will be conducted between April and August 2014.
What route will the free CITY CONNECTOR operate on?
The new free CITY CONNECTOR will operate in both directions in a loop around the City and North Adelaide. Additional shuttle services will operate within the CBD to provide a higher service frequency (except at bus stop 13B).

How reliable will the free CITY CONNECTOR be?
The new free CITY CONNECTOR will be subject to the same performance standards as other Adelaide Metro public transport services. Torrens Transit, the bus contractor, will be responsible for maintaining the new service’s on-time performance.
Who will operate the free CITY CONNECTOR bus service?
The new free CITY CONNECTOR bus service will be operated under the existing Adelaide Metro bus contract with Torrens Transit.
