What is City Plan?

City Plan is a new way of doing urban planning where we are mapping our vision and strategies for future sustainable growth and development across the City of Adelaide. Using new 3D technology, we can analyse options to get the best results for the community, environment or economy and track how we’re going.

City Plan 2036 will be a guide:

    • To -shape the city based on a long-term vision with a 10-year delivery focus
    • For future growth and development of the city
    • For future city experiences
    • To inform future decisions about infrastructure and development.

Why do we need a City Plan?

Developing and growing a city is a considered and thoughtful process.

City Plan will deliver a framework to guide growth and influence how we all experience the city into the next decade. It will help us drive economic vitality, prioritse social wellbeing, manage environmental sustainability and deal with potential challenges quickly and easily to create a sense of community and connectedness.

Building on existing plans and commitments, our City Plan 2036 will promote city growth that is centred around the needs of its people, now and into the future.

City Plan 2036 will help current and future residents, businesses and investors feel confident about investing in our growing city.

I have provided information similar to this before, how is this different?

You may have provided feedback in the past through the City Residents Survey 2021, the City User Profile or more recently about City of Adelaide Strategies and Plans, such as the recent City of Adelaide Housing Strategy and Economic Development Strategy, and the current engagement on the Draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

We have used feedback from these previous engagements to develop City Plan 2036.

This City Plan ‘drop-pin’ survey is different. City Plan is using the latest technology to create a digital strategic urban plan. We are asking you to identify qualities of specific sites or areas that we can capture in our plans about how the city will develop.

Show us what is important to you about your local area and where you think there are opportunities for growth and renewal.

What projects will my feedback inform?

City Plan 2036 provides an urban planning framework for the next decade. It is informed by the spatial elements of existing City of Adelaide Strategies and Plans. Your feedback will be used to help some of the commitments in these  Strategies and Plans.

Your feedback will also inform the City Plan digital tool and future growth scenarios. It will help bring focus to creating place-based responses to how the city can achieve the targeted population increase to 50,000 residents by 2036, and identify the facilities and amenities needed to help make the City of Adelaide a great place to live, work and play.
