    What are the benefits of the project?

    The overall proposed design for the community garden is shown in Figure 1.

    The community garden features:

    1. An area of raised garden beds
    2. A hexagonal bed for children’s gardening
    3. A children’s maze / sensory garden
    4. Storage container and compost area
    5. Espaliered (grown flat on a trellis) and potted fruit trees which will separate the garden from the car park and Park Lands Trail
    6. The planting of 16 new Blue Gums (Eucalyptus leucoxylon)
    7. The use of recycled water
    8. Provision for future garden beds depending on demand from the local community.

    What are the project impacts?

    The site of the proposed community garden is known to be contaminated through past activity associated with the adjacent rail line. As such, raised garden beds made of recycled plastic sleepers will be used with imported growing medium contained with a barrier mesh at the base of each bed. Fruit trees are to be planted in remediated soil.

    What are the key proposed licence terms?

    A number of people from the adjacent Bowden residential development and North Adelaide have expressed an interest in forming an incorporated management committee which will take responsibility for the Licence with Council. The key terms of this Licence are as follows:

    1. No fee
    2. A five-year term
    3. A non-commercial (no commercial gain) operation
    4. Unrestricted public access and no exclusive use
    5. No sub-letting permitted without consent of Council
    6. Adherence to the provisions of the Environmental Management Plan
    7. No use of chemicals, ie an organic operation.

    When will the community garden be constructed?

    Subject to this consultation process the garden is proposed to commence operation mid 2016.

    What happens to my feedback?

    A summary of all the feedback received will provide Council with the necessary direction on how the lease proposals will proceed.

    Please ensure that comments relate to the lease document itself as this will assist Council with the decision making process. Comments received not relating to the lease but the wider project area will be presented to Council but may not have any bearing on the decision making process.

    How will I be notified of the decision of Council?

    Once a decision has been made by Council, a copy of the resolution will be uploaded to the Your Say Adelaide webpage together with links to the agenda and minutes of the Council Meeting.

    How do I provide my feedback?

    There are a number of ways in which you can provide feedback:
