The State Government has committed significant funds to the redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre. The project is likely to take 5 years to complete and a location (works compound) to contain all the equipment required to manage the project is essential.

The State Government has submitted an application to Council to use a nearby part of the Park Lands as a works compound. Council is proposing to grant a Licence over the proposed site area to the State Government for this purpose.

The area requested was used as a rail yard for many years and more recently as a temporary bus exchange area. It is anticipated that the location of this compound will have a minimal affect on public use of the Park Lands, being in an area that is not frequented by the public.

Under the Community Land provisions of the Local Government Act 1999 and the SA Local Government Act 1999, the granting of the proposed Licence is subject to public consultation.
