Why do we need to change the current parking controls?

    The current parking controls are inconsistent, having been changed for various reasons over many years. Some parking space controls have not been updated to reflect changes to Sunday trading hours, for example.It has also been noted that the existing 15 minute stay spaces are unable to be effectively enforced, which limits the turnover in these spaces and reduces their effectiveness.

    Why aren’t the time limits proposed longer?

    City businesses are supported by easy transport access for short-term visitors, including short stay on-street parking. This proposal seeks to provide the most effective use of valuable kerb-side space, by utilising it for short-term parking, loading and taxis and thereby provides a parking solution for people who seek quick, convenient parking in the East End. People who want to stay longer are encouraged to use one of the 7 local off-street car parks (within a block) or park further away and then walk to the precinct.
    Parking on the north side of Rundle Street that is currently ticket parking until 10pm is proposed to be changed until 6pm, effectively allowing unrestricted parking after 6pm along the length of Rundle Street and throughout the precinct. This is to encourage access for after-hours retail/dining and also provide for residential visitors.

    What about parking for my employees?

    The role of on-street parking within the East End precinct is to provide spaces for short-term visitors, loading and taxis which will assist in supporting vibrant businesses, rather than providing long-term parking for employees. If employees require parking during their work hours there are a number of options available, including early bird rates at one of the 7 local off-street car parks.

    How do I provide my feedback?

    There are a number of ways in which you can provide feedback:

    Complete the online or hard copy Feedback Form which asks specific questions about the project and provides an opportunity for general comments regarding the project/proposal.

    Submission must include the name and residential or business address of the respondent, which will be included in a report to Council which will be publically available. All written submissions must be received by 5.00 pm on the 12 September and should be addressed to: Community Consultation

    How do I know my feedback has been received?

    All feedback forms or submissions will be acknowledged either by email or in writing so that you know your comments/feedback have been received.

    What happens to my feedback?

    Council staff will review the comments and suggestions received and, where appropriate, refine the parking controls where consistent with the principles employed in undertaking the parking control review. The proposal aims to balance different user needs and provide a range of on-street parking controls to suit all stakeholder groups.

    A summary of the feedback received will be posted on this page at on yoursay.adelaidecitycouncil.com

    A report will then be prepared for Council, seeking endorsement of the proposed parking controls, prior to implementation. This report will include a summary of submissions received during the consultation period.
