What is GEAR’d?

GEAR’d Adelaide is a four-day event hosted by the Wakefield Hotel within the venue and in a section of Divett Place. This event has attracted large groups of attendees from all around Australia and overseas in previous years. In 2019 over 150 people travelled to Adelaide for the event, with many extending their holidays to visit other parts of the region. It is expected that this year’s attendance will be 250+ as everyone is excited to attend after the hiatus. GEAR’d organisers wish to increase their event space beyond the hotel to cater for the larger attendance.

The road area will accommodate live performances and food and beverage offerings for guests.

GEAR’d have committed to limiting event times and noise during business hours to reduce the impact on neighbours.

Would fixed businesses remain accessible during GEAR’d?

Yes, while a section of the road will be closed to vehicular traffic off Wakefield Street, all driveways on Divett Place will remain clear and will still be accessible off Flinders Street. Furthermore, pedestrians will be able to access all businesses on Divett Place with the eastern footpath to remain open. The event organisers will ensure the footpath is kept clear to provide clear access.

How will people be notified of this event?

If the event is approved, all residents and businesses residing in the surrounding area will be notified of the upcoming event via a letterbox drop organised by the event organiser two weeks prior the event. Included in the letter will be details of expected noise, road closure details and an event hotline telephone number.

This event hotline telephone number is provided by the event organiser should a member of the public wish to lodge any feedback or concerns during the event.

Additionally, City of Adelaide upload details of upcoming events on the Event Dashboard  - https://www.cityofadelaide.com.au/community/spaces-rooms-venues-to-hire/upcoming-events/

Who can I contact during the event if I have any concerns regarding the event?

Events are required to provide an event hotline telephone number, should a member of the public wish to lodge any feedback or concerns during the event.

Any member of the public can use the event hotline number to provide their feedback to the event organiser. It is the responsibility of the event organiser to consider all feedback provided and take any necessary actions to remedy the issue. The event hotline phone number will be operated for the duration of the event.

Alternatively, members of the public contact the City of Adelaide on 8203 7203 to lodge any feedback or concerns.
