How did we celebrate New Year's Eve in 2021?

The City of Adelaide developed a hybrid visual entertainment approach that was developed out of research with key stakeholders that included businesses, the community and industry bodies.

We also developed a recommended event model for NYE 2021 which supported the Council’s commitment to drive visitation to the city. The event model, which was designed to be flexible enough to respond to potential Covid-19 restrictions, was endorsed by Council in July 2021.

The NYE in the City 2021 consisted of the signature event – ‘Light Up’ which was a family-friendly event, ticketed event in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka.  Elder Park was not a viable option for 2021 given the size of the viewing areas,  and keeping it Covid safe was not an option.

“Midnight Moments” were presented throughout the City with road closures on Rundle Street, Jerningham Street and Bartels Road, and smaller parties at Eleven on Waymouth and the Sparkke at Whitmore. Various lighting elements were presented at the Midnight Moments, with some having views of fireworks.
