What is the scope of work planned?

The scope of works is limited to the exchange of light fittings, while retaining the existing poles and underground services in the large majority of locations.

In exceptional cases, tree growth may affect a light’s performance adversely. These cases will be addressed individually with the most-affected parties, so that the matter may be resolved successfully

Why do we need new light fittings?

Council has a responsibility to maintain its infrastructure in good condition and operate it cost-effectively and efficiently.

The new fittings will enable Council to achieve these objectives in an affordable manner.

Where else is LED lighting being used successfully?

LED Street-lighting technology is well advanced and used successfully in many capital and smaller cities across, Europe, UK, USA, Canada and Asia.

How will the increased costs be affordable?

The higher initial investment required for LED Street-lighting is readily balanced over time by the savings from their reduced energy consumption, improved reliability, and superior light quality.

What types of lighting does Council intend to install around the city in the future?

Adelaide City Council is committed facilitating safe and sustainable communities through its lighting program. While the currently available LED technology offers many advantages over conventional lighting, Council will continually monitor market developments to ensure that its investment decisions remain prudent and timely.
