Have your say on a permit application for the temporary closure of Vardon Avenue on Melbourne Cup Day 2020

Project Background and Information

We would like your feedback on an event road application received from East End Cellars to hold a Melbourne Cup Event in Vardon Avenue on Tuesday 3 November 2020. The Melbourne Cup Event on Vardon Avenue has been held annually since 2015. The event proposes to showcase local and regional wine offerings, a runway fashion show and have extended outdoor dining on the street.

The event will run from from 12 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday 3 November 2020.

To facilitate this event, it is proposed that Vardon Avenue between East Terrace and Rundle Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6am to 9pm on Tuesday 3 November 2020.

To facilitate the road closures, it is proposed that all the on-street parking spaces on the closed section of the roads will be changed to ‘No Stopping – Tow-Away’ for the duration of the road closures.

An approval for the Melbourne Cup Event in Vardon Avenue event would be by way of an Event Permit issued by the City of Adelaide.

Information Pack

Consultation closes 5pm, Monday 2 November 2020.

Background

Under the Local Government Act 1999, the City of Adelaide is required to consult the public before it can grant a permit for an event that requests to use a public road for business purposes, and which will require whole or partial road closure(s) that may impede the passage of traffic to a material degree.
