    We are pleased to advise that work has been finalised on the new children’s playspace, adding to the existing recreation facilities in the Park to form a new community activity hub.

    These works includes two BBQ and picnic table areas, a feature rock swale, a new hard stand for hand ball, nature play inspired play equipment, a sand pit and feature climbing rocks. The design was nature play inspired, with a focus on natural elements.

    We are pleased to advise that work has been finalised on the new children’s playspace, adding to the existing recreation facilities in the Park to form a new community activity hub.

    The landscaping associated with the new children’s playspace will also incorporate a pocket orchard, which includes 10 varieties of productive trees for the community to use.

    The official launch of this new community facility will be held on Saturday October 15 from 10.30am and will be opened by North Ward Councillor Phillip Martin.

    Council is still working with Prince Alfred College (the lessee) and the Prince Alfred Old Collegians Association (the primary user group) to refine the sports building design based on feedback received and will re-present to the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and Council in the coming months.

    Adelaide City Council sought feedback in February 2015 on a range of projects associated with Tidlangga (Park 9).

    These projects include a pocket orchard, children’s playspace and new sports building.

    Update

    We are pleased to advise that work will commence shortly on the new children’s playspace, adding to the existing recreation facilities in the Park to form a new community activity hub. These works will include new seating, grassed areas and shading to improve use of the Park for everyone.

    The landscaping associated with the new children’s playspace will also incorporate a pocket orchard.
    This work is scheduled to be completed by late August 2016, weather permitting.

    Council is still working with Prince Alfred College (the lessee) and the Prince Alfred Old Collegians Association (the primary user group) to refine the sports building design to ensure it reflects the results of the community engagement. As such, this matter is still yet to be re-presented to the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and Council.

    In February this year, Council sought feedback from the community on the creation of a new playspace in Tidlangga (Park 9). At the same time, we also consulted on the establishment of a community Pocket Orchard in Tidlangga (Park 9) or Nantu Wama (Park 6).

    What did we hear from the community? The key community engagement results included:

    Pocket Orchard
    • 90% of respondents either supported or did not mind the establishment of a Pocket Orchard in North Adelaide,
    • It was evident that there was community support for an integrated Playspace and Pocket Orchard design in Tidlangga...
    In February this year, Council sought feedback from the community on the creation of a new playspace in Tidlangga (Park 9). At the same time, we also consulted on the establishment of a community Pocket Orchard in Tidlangga (Park 9) or Nantu Wama (Park 6).

    What did we hear from the community? The key community engagement results included:

    Pocket Orchard
    • 90% of respondents either supported or did not mind the establishment of a Pocket Orchard in North Adelaide,
    • It was evident that there was community support for an integrated Playspace and Pocket Orchard design in Tidlangga (Park 9),
    • The local community would like to see low maintenance trees including citrus varieties, local/indigenous and nut trees (almond and macadamia) included.
    Playspace
    • Tidlangga (Park 9) playspace to offer something different to surrounding areas and other existing Adelaide playspaces,
    • Tidlangga (Park 9) elements such as paths, seating, public art and shade to form part of the play environment and connect with sports building and public toilets,
    • Tidlangga (Park 9) environment to include a pocket orchard.
    Next Steps
    Feedback received from the community has been used to inform the concept plan of the playspace and integrated location of the Pocket Orchard in Tidlangga (Park 9).

    This concept plan has been endorsed by the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and Council. At this stage, the construction of the playspace will commence in early 2016.

    Residents adjacent Tidlangga (Park 9) will be notified prior to any construction commencing. ACC is looking forward to bringing the first Pocket Orchard to North Adelaide and creating a family Activity hub for the local community.

    Consultation on the North Adelaide Playspace and Pocket Orchard concluded in late February 2015. The community feedback received during this time will be used to informed the design for both of these projects.

    At the moment, staff are collating and analysing the received feedback. Once this has finish, a report will be presented to Council for their consideration.

    Warnpangga (Park 10) play ground has been highlighted for renewal due the equipment nearing the end of its asset life. The Warnpangga (Park 10) playground is proposed to be replaced through the creation of a new playspace in Tidlangga (Park 9).
