Why go to public consultation for a proposed lease of 42 years?

Public consultation is required to be formally undertaken in accordance with the Local Government Act 1999 as stated below:

202 – Alienation of community land by lease or licence
    (1) A Council may grant a lease or licence over community land (including community land that is, or forms part of, a park or reserve), and
    (2) Before the Council grants a lease or licence relating to community land, it must follow the relevant steps set out in its public consultation policy.
    (6) A lease or licence must be consistent with any relevant management plan.

What is my role in the decision making process of a 42 year lease in the Park Lands?

To assist the Council with the decision of granting a 42 year lease over community land it is important that the community’s opinions, requirements and views are considered. Council invites you to comment on the proposed 42 year lease over a portion of Tulya Wardli (Park 27).

As an individual will I still be able to use Tulya Wardli (Park 27)?

There is a desire to encourage and continue the passive use of Tulya Wardli (Park 27) by individuals, families and groups of friends for various activities and other informal recreation.

How will this affect user of Tulya Wardli (Park 27)?

The Adelaide Park Lands are classified as Community Land therefore Council has a responsibility to ensure they are accessible for community use.
It is envisaged that the proposed 42 year lease will not affect users of Tulya Wardli (Park 27). As currently experienced, the community will continue to benefit from unrestricted access to Tulya Wardli (Park 27).
