Who is the Park Lands Trail for?
The Park Lands Trail is a recreation trail designed to support walkers, runners and cyclists in being physically active and exploring places and spaces in the Adelaide Park Lands.
Why is a ‘Park Lands’ Trail using streets?
Why does the crossing over Melbourne Street look similar to before?
Both Council and the State Government are looking at options to alter the traffic arrangements at the intersection of Mann Road and Melbourne Street. It is our intention to create an improved crossing (i.e. better pedestrian and cyclist alignment) across Melbourne Street when these changes are implemented.
In the meantime, minor improvements are proposed to the existing pedestrian arrangement to create a pedestrian and cyclist crossing utilising the existing alignment.
Where has the idea of the Park Lands Trail come from?
Construction of the Park Lands Trail commenced in the south Park Lands in 2003. Each year, Council has been working on constructing another stage.
It is the only project that links the Park Lands and encourages people to explore different and often unique parts of our City’s wonderful park system.
The completed sections of the Trail have been very well received by the community, with some suggestions around improving way finding (directional signage) and creating safer crossings, which Council is working towards.
The Park Lands Trail appears in a variety of Council (and State Government) documents as key project.
When will the Park Lands Trail be completed?

Why do we need to complete the Bike Trail around Adelaide?
The Park Lands Trail is a key strategic project for the Park Lands and is recognised in Council’s Strategic Plan 2012-16, Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy, Smart Move Strategy and Active City Strategy.
In addition it will:
- Provide safe and more convenient facilities for cyclist’ and walkers
- Help remove the dominance and need for the car.
- Provide an improved access and encourage the use of our valuable and beautiful Parklands
Why are we getting local people to provide ideas?
It is important to Council that these sections of the Park Lands Trail fit with the aspirations and culture of the local community at the same time as serving the wider goal of completing the Park Lands Trail.
It is also well known that when local people are involved they are more likely to support and use the resulting changes because they have also achieved some of their own goals for their community.
