What are the benefits of the project?

The proposed location is close to its original site, builds on the already long-established West Terrace climate record in a consistent environment, and achieves a reliable, high quality observing site that can serve the community's long term needs.

    What are the project impacts?

The finalised landscape plan for the site will result in the necessary removal of 12 trees. None are significant or regulated, most exhibit poor structure and many are the result of regrowth from removed specimens.

Additional tree planting will be undertaken and the station itself and its surrounds will be planted with indigenous grasses and ground covers.

The fence will be 1.2 m high, black chain mesh and will rest lightly in the landscape.

When will the weather station be constructed?

Subject to this consultation process, the weather station is anticipated to be constructed later in 2016.

What are the key proposed lease terms?

The key terms of the draft lease are as follows:

    1. 42 years
    2. Nominal fee of $1.00 per annum, payable on demand
    3. Maintenance and use conditions tailored to the Bureau of Meterology’s functions under the Meteorology Act 1955
    4. No assignment, transfer or subletting without consent of Council
    5. A requirement for the BoM to comply with the approved designs and master plans of Council for the Park Lands
    6. A requirement for Council to comply with the Clearance Zone Guidelines (refer Annexure 2 of the lease) aimed at maintaining natural air flows and surface temperatures around the facility.

    What happens to my feedback?

A summary of all the feedback received will provide Council with the necessary direction on how the lease proposals will proceed.

Please ensure that comments relate to the lease document itself as this will assist Council with the decision making process. Comments received not relating to the lease but the wider project area will be presented to Council but may not have any bearing on the decision making process.

How will I be notified of the decision of Council?

Once a decision has been made by Council, a copy of the resolution will be uploaded to the Your Say Adelaide webpage together with links to the agenda and minutes of the Council Meeting.
