Consultation Outcome

Overall, the results in regards to recreation activities in Victoria Park indicated that the community did not support a significant reduction in the dog off leash area and, were supportive of model aircraft using Victoria Park. As a result, in order to address safety concerns, equity of access and enjoyment for all users, the following was recommended to Council:

  • minimal change to the dog off leash area, with the Premium Field to be on leash and the criterium track on lead only when in use; and
  • the southern sports fields (when not in use for organised sport and training) and an area south of this available for electric model aircraft.

This recommendation was endorsed by Council on Tuesday 9th September 2014, but the following limitations were added to the flying of Model Aircraft:

  • there is to be no use prior to 10.00am and after 7.00pm on weekends and Public Holidays; and
  • Council also requested that a further report be presented to Committee after 6 months which includes details of noise levels produced when model aeroplane activity is occurring and appropriateness of designated area.
