Background

  • The City of Adelaide received State Government support to engage with selected residents about food and green organics waste at home.
  • We know residents experience different waste and recycling challenges depending on their premise location, configuration, and size.
  • The City of Adelaide has a vision to be a zero avoidable waste to landfill city. To realise this vision the City has an action plan to reduce food waste generation and increase diversion of food scraps from landfill by 50 per cent.
  • Overall, we actively engaged with between 60 – 80 households and responses will help inform future education programs and possible service innovations for residential kerbside waste and recycling collections.
  • Information collected was de-identified, aggregated, and analysed for trends.
