Project Information and Background

The City of Adelaide is required under Section 12 of the Local Government Act 1999 to conduct a comprehensive review of its representation structure by June 2021.

The purpose of a Representation Review (the 'Review') is to determine whether the City of Adelaide communities are adequately represented in local government. The first stage of the Review is the preparation of a 'Representation Options Paper', which examines whether Council’s structure (i.e. the composition of elected members in Council and across the council area) provides the most beneficial structure for representation of its community, and whether those communities would benefit from changes to the composition, size or Ward structure of the Council.

The City of Adelaide has begun public consultation on its latest Representation Review. The first stage of consultation seeks your feedback on the Representation Options Paper. We would like your thoughts on three key issues that form the basis for public consultation on our Representation Options Paper:

    1. What is important to you about the number of elected members? (please share your thoughts and ideas about the number of elected members to provide fair and adequate representation)
    2. What is important to you about the Principal member of Council? (please share your thoughts whether the Lord Mayor should be elected by Councillors or directly by the community)
    3. What is important to you about Wards?

This forum provides you an opportunity to provide council with feedback and also to interact with other community members in threaded conversations. Please note that this forum is supported by 24/7 moderation.
