Council is asking for community feedback on the Riverbank Precinct Footbridge.

Your feedback will be used to inform Council's elected members

All submissions will be collated & summarised, and included in a report to elected members.

This report will be made available on the Yoursay Adelaide website in late September 2012 / Early October 2012.

Feedback forms, submissions or correspondence will not be formally acknowledged. However, a report summarising feedback received will be publicly available after consideration by Council.

The bridge is under the jurisdiction of the State Government.

This is a State Government initiated project improving the link between the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and the Riverbank Precinct.

The State Government have indicated the bridge has a project budget of $40 million.

As this is a State Government initiative, Council is not contributing any funds or resources to the bridge project.

As the project is a State Government initiative, the Adelaide City Council has no formal say into the design process for the bridge. The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has a section on their website recording feedback on the current bridge design.

Council resolved at its meeting on 24 July 2012 to gather feedback from the public. This feedback will then be provided  to the State Government. It also helps Council shape their opinion toward the bridge and its design.

It is anticipated that the bridge will be between 8-10m in width. However, further work is being undertaken by the State government to establish the most appropriate width.

The bridge needs to serve a variety of purposes. It will be a key pedestrian movement corridor for everyday commuters, while also serving as a vehicle to move significant amounts of people quickly into and out of Adelaide Oval when major events are on. The State Government currently believes a width of 8-10m meets this purpose.

The existing bridges would not be able to cope with the expected flow of people between the city and the redeveloped Adelaide Oval without severely impacting traffic and becoming a safety hazard.

At the moment the design team are currently finalising the design. It is anticipated that construction on the bridge will commence in early 2013 and be completed towards the end of 2013.

The State Government has informed Council that it does not foresee any major impacts while construction is ongoing. There may be road closures along War Memorial Drive at various stages.

It is Council’s preferred position that once the bridge is completed that Council takes ownership of the bridge, as per the other 55 bridges in the Adelaide City Council area. The State Government would then be asked to make an ongoing contribution to the maintenance costs.
