Will this project impact traffic flow on Wright Court and Field Street?

Making the street safer for pedestrians and slowing vehicle speeds was one of the key themes of the feedback we received.

The intent is for vehicles to be slowed by the new raised intersection treatment at the corner of
Wright Court and Field Street, which will allow for the existing speed humps to be removed.

The new street trees in both Wright Court and Field Street will also help to slow vehicles.

General traffic flow is not proposed to change as part of this project (i.e. the current 2-way
    configurations will be maintained).

There will be some temporary impacts to traffic during construction. We will be in contact with
more detail closer to the date of works.

Will there be loss of car parking?

No. There is no overall loss to the existing number of car parks or loading zones on these streets.

We have undertaken an audit of the current on-street parking configuration in Wright Court and Field Street with the view to consolidate and update the parking controls and their location. Some on-street parking in the area has not been updated in 30+ years and we believe that on-street loading andshort-term parking is critical to businesses trading in the precinct.

The proposed on-street parking plan is designed to provide sufficient loading facilities, short-term
parking, and introduces motorcycle parking to the area.

What type of trees are being planted?

We are proposing to plant medium sized ornamental trees (e.g. Ornamental Pear).

The trees will be between 1-2m tall at the time they are planted.

The final tree species to be planted will be selected in the coming months, in accordance with the
    requirements of service authorities.

How does this project relate to Council’s Strategic Plan?

New trees align to Council’s objective to increase greening in the city.

Making the street safer for pedestrians directly relates to Council’s objective to encourage people visiting
the city for shopping, leisure and entertainment.

Implementing the Our Market District Plan is an action of the City of Adelaide 2016-2020 Strategic Plan.

How does this project relate to the Our Market District Plan?

Direct actions identified in the Our Market District Plan include:
    • “Improve footpaths, seating, landscaping, and roadways along the north-south streets to build on existing character and opportunities and create interesting and safe spaces for people”
    • “Make Field and Market Streets a pedestrian friendly environment, with potential for shared use roadways…”
These actions have been considered alongside the feedback received from stakeholders as
part of Stage 1 consultation (for a summary, please visit the Your Say Adelaide page online at yoursay.cityofadelaide.com.au/)

When will construction start and how long will it take?

This project is planned to be constructed during the 2018/19 financial year and will be planned taking into consideration other council projects in the area.

Pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses at all operating times during construction.

We will be in contact with more details regarding construction closer to the date.
