The Adelaide City Council has received an application from the Adelaide Festival of the Arts 2012 for the use of the Pioneer Womens' Memorial Gardens to enable Adelaide Writers Week to take place between Friday 2 March 2012 and Thursday 8 March 2012. The event set up isscheduled to start on Monday 27 February 2012 with pull down to be completed by Saturday 9 March 2012.

It is anticipated that the event will attract approximately 2,000 people daily. Opening hours are proposed from 9.30am to 6pm daily. Evening sessions are also proposed from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 6 March
2012 and Wednesday 7 March 2012.

Adelaide Writer's Week is a free writer's festival traditionally held adjacent to the memorial in the Pioneer Women's Memorial Gardens. The event features national and international significant writers on
two stages within the gardens. The event offers a blend of readings, panel discussions and 'meet the
author' sessions. A comprehensive children's program is also proposed for this event.

Adelaide Writer's Week 2012 propose to introduce temporary shade sails within the gardens, including the memorial, to improve visitor amenity and reduce impact on grassed surfaces. In previous years, this event has introduced marquees across the event site which resulted in increased congestion and over-crowding. Proposed shade structures have been designed to minimise these issues and are included in the attached site plan.

The event will introduce temporary shade sails, a retail marquee, temporary toilet facilities, catering vans and staging into the gardens.

The event is free to the public.
