Proposed 24/7 Dry Area in all Adelaide Park Lands

Have your say on the City of Adelaide's proposal to designate all the Adelaide Park Lands as a 24/7 dry area.

Background

For several months the City of Adelaide has been working with SA Police and other State Government agencies, social services and the community to address ongoing concerns of excessive alcohol consumption and anti-social behaviour in the South Park Lands. This resulted in Council passing a resolution to apply to the State Government for a 24 hour, seven days a week dry area in all the Adelaide Park Lands, with immediate implementation in the southern Park Lands from Victoria Park/ Pakapakanthi (Park 16) to Golden Wattle Park/ Mirnu Wirra (Park 21 West) to try and address alcohol-fuelled, anti-social behaviour in these parks

The State Government has enacted a trial 24/7 Dry Area in Kurangga (Park 20) and Veale Gardens/ Walya Yarta (Park 21) for three months from 20 December 2019. Consumption of alcohol in these two parks is now prohibited at all times.

Existing dry area restrictions across the city remain in place. City streets and squares are a dry area at all times and all Park Lands (aside from Parks 20 and 21) are a dry area daily from 8pm to 11am.

In order to consider a 24 hour, seven days a week dry area in all the Adelaide Park Lands the State Government requires the City of Adelaide to demonstrate community support for this proposal through broad community consultation.

The City of Adelaide would like to hear your views on this proposal. The outcome of this consultation will be provided to the State Government to assist its decision making.
