In the absence of a permanent skate facility and the identification of a suitable location yet to be made, a Temporary Skate and Court upgrade will be constructed in Ityamai-itpina (Park 15) off Wakefield Road. This facility will be constructed within the footprint of the existing basketball courts, and the extent of works will include a skate section, upgraded basketball facilities and community recreation facilities. The project is currently open for tender and the successful tender submission is scheduled to be confirmed in November 2015.
Council is continuing discussions with the State Government regarding the funding and location of a new permanent skate facility in the city. The development of this temporary skate and court upgrade will provide a significant opportunity to engage with the skate community on the design, implementation and management of a new permanent solution specifically.
