The City of Adelaide undertook consultation from January 28 to February 28 2020 regarding a streetscape upgrade proposal for Field Street. The proposal covered the following elements:

• Altering the traffic to one way. Pursuant to section 32 of the South Australian Road Traffic Act 1961, the City of Adelaide gave notice that it is proposing to close Field Street, Adelaide between Gouger Street and Wright Street to all motor vehicles travelling in a northbound direction except bicycles, emergency services vehicles and City of Adelaide authorised vehicles, as per the concept plans;
• Planting of additional tree planting and other upgrades. Pursuant to section 232 (Trees) of the Local Government Act 1999 (SA) the City of Adelaide gives notice that it is proposing to plant additional trees in Field Street as part of the streetscape upgrade.

As required by state legislation both proposals required public consultation before Council can approve the works proceeding.

The City of Adelaide undertook consultation from late January to late February 2020 regarding a streetscape upgrade proposal for Field Street. The proposal covered elements including altering the traffic to one way, as well as tree planting and other upgrades. We received a significant amount of feedback (329 visits to this page and 43 people providing feedback), which will now inform our design moving forward. The next steps for the project is to finalise the design by August 2020, before a decision will be made by Council as to whether to proceed with the upgrade.
