Is the Commercial Fitness Activity permit likely to be removed?

No.  This evaluation is not about having it or not.  It is important for us to get feedback from the users of the system we have put in place, to identify if there are any areas we can improve it.

    How was the system developed?

Recreation SA wrote a Code of Conduct for commercial fitness operators using public space and this prompted Council to review best practices from around the country with the intent of establishing a permit system.  We collaborated with Fitness Australia as your peak body to ensure their endorsement.

Why do commercial fitness business owners have to pay fees?

A fee is in place to cover the cost of administrating the permit system, in recognition that this is a commercial business activity.

Why do Fitness Business owners need a permit?

Firstly, it is a requirement under Council’s By-Law 3 Local Government Land for all commercial activity to have Council permission.

Secondly having a permit assists Council in managing the use of Park lands effectively and it allows Council to ensure that fitness instructors are qualified and accredited.  It helps Council to minimise risks and management of community assets.

    Why have a system?

Council is supportive of active use of the Park Lands.  We want to be able to manage fitness groups in a fair manner giving everyone a chance to nominate and operate in a space and to ensure that the rghts of the community are maintained/protected.
