Hamilton Place, Adelaide: One Way Traffic Flow

At its meeting on 27 June Council noted the results of traffic assessments and public consultation for the proposed closure to westbound traffic in Hamilton Place, Adelaide. A decision was made to retain the existing two-way traffic conditions in Hamilton Place.

As part of the Greener City Streets Program five new trees will be planted and one water sensitive urban design greening area will be installed at the eastern end of Hamilton Place in late 2023.

National Heritage Management Plan for the Adelaide Park Lands and City Layout

Following the conclusion of the consultation period on the Draft National Heritage Management Plan for the Adelaide Park Lands and City Layout, Council is in the process of considering the submissions received and appropriate amendments to the Policy. The draft National Heritage Management Plan with recommended changes to the Plan arising from public consultation will be considered by Council in November 2023.

Sturt Street West Greening

The Sturt West Greening Project has been put on hold and will not be delivered as part of this year's Business Plan and Budget (BP&B). The Project will be considered in future BP&B’s.

The reasons for the works not proceeding are as follows:

  • A rise in construction material and labour has exceeded City of Adelaide’s (CoA) expectations on costs.
  • The market is currently saturated with this type of work, which has led to little interest from contractors to undertake the works.

Further to the above, in May 2023, Council made a decision to reallocate funding from the Sturt Street West Greening project to other projects to align with the BP&B focus for the 2023-24 financial year. This project was partly funded by Green Adelaide and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI).

The project team will engage with community groups directly to inform them of this decision.

The Grant Partners have been notified and CoA are looking to reallocate the Green Adelaide and LRCI funding.
