Will access to Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli be affected during the event?

For the purposes of public safety, access to the lease area will be restricted. However, this event will not restrict access to any public footpaths, bicycle tracks or roadways within the park.

Will it cost to attend the event?

The event is only accessible for paying customers. The nominated ticket price for this event range from $16 - $60.

How will the Park Lands be protected during their stay?

In addition to the standard requirements under the event lease, Moscow Circus will be responsible for minimising impacts on the Park Lands by following Adelaide City Council’s Standard Operating Procedures for Events in the Park Lands. The event will be responsible for restoring the park to its original condition at the end of the event.


Additional Park Land protection measures that Moscow Circus will be required to undertake include hand watering as required and mat flooring on high foot traffic areas.

Can I expect noise where I live?

Some minor noise is anticipated.  Predicted noise levels are within accepted guidelines for an event of this nature.  Council has not received noise complaints relating to circuses in the past.

Is parking available at the event site?

Public transport will be promoted as the best way to attend this event, with the tram service adjacent on Port Road.

U-Park will be operating car parking in Bonython Park on performance days. The car parking fee will be in line with the endorsed rate for commercial event parking on the Park Lands, which is currently $15 per vehicle.

I have already seen a poster or advertisement for this event. Has it already been approved?

Approval for an event requiring public consultation is only given after the consultation period has concluded and Council has had the opportunity to review any submissions.

Adelaide City Council discourages any event from promotions prior to Council approval. In some instances, particularly national tours, there is a need for events to announce dates in each capital city. This however does not constitute Council approval for the event.

What animals are in the circus?

Four miniature horses perform in the circus and four large horses travel with the circus in training.

How are the animals trained?

The horses have been trained using a reward training program.

Will the animals live on-site outside of performance times?

Yes, the horses will live on-site with their keepers from set up on Monday 22 September 2014 to Monday 13 October 2014.
Moscow Circus will provide care and housing for all animals within a secured fenced area, including night quarters, in line with animal management regulations.

How will animal welfare be assured?

Circuses visiting the Adelaide Park Lands are required to comply with the current State Government legislation and guidelines relating to animal welfare. This includes the Animal Welfare Act 1985, the South Australian Animal Welfare Regulations 2012 and the South Australian Code of Practice for The Welfare of Animals In Circuses. The Code of Practice is legally enforceable and RSPCA inspectors can carry out inspections to ensure compliance.

What happens to my feedback?

All submissions will be collated and included in a report to Council to assist in making a decision regarding the event lease.

A report will be presented to the City Culture and Community Services Committee on Tuesday 1 July 2014 followed by the Council meeting on Tuesday 8 July 2014.
