Victoria Park Change Room & Toilets Building update.
Construction is due to begin. Civil works will start week beginning 16 April 2018 followed by construction work week commencing 23 April 2018. Construction will take approximately 8-10 weeks. The building will support existing park users as well as further activation of the Southern Sports Fields for the 2018/19 summer season.
During construction, all planned services will be located underground to reduce the impact on the Central Gardens.
The final design for the building can be viewed here. It incorporates unisex public toilets that will open during day light hours and two change rooms that are locked at all times unless hired by users of the park who will be given key access.
The design incorporates Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to ensure public safety is paramount. The building is a pre-cast masonry panel system with a Stainless-Steel sheet cast integrally for the internal surface and a power-trowelled smooth concrete external surface. The panel system is extremely vandal attack tolerant. Internal graffiti can be removed using proprietary solvents. The dimpled patterns are resistant to scratch marking and if required any external graffiti can re-painted immediately.
The building incorporates the following sustainability elements:
Solar hot water
GAP (Glenelg Adelaide Pipeline) water for the toilet flushing
Timed showers and lights
We are still investigating the option of solar electricity
A community notice/chalk board can be considered if necessary once the building work is complete.
