CONSULTATION UPDATES

Newlands Lane

We heard that the laneway is a well-used and important link between Melbourne Street and Finnis Street, and a valuable connection between North Adelaide and the Parklands. Council has decided based on the feedback received to keep the laneway open.

The project team will continue to investigate the laneway; with a re-design to be undertaken to consider pedestrian safety lighting with a renewed footpath to improve accessibility. The stormwater pipe under Newlands Lane will remain and continue to manage the Council's Stormwater system in this precinct. For more information click here.

Pitt Street Streetscape Upgrade

This upgrade aims to provide a key city pedestrian connection, promote economic vitality, enhance the street's unique character and provide opportunities for street activation such as outdoor dining.

Construction is anticipated to commence late 2023, and will take 6-10 months to complete. For more details and to keep up to date click here.

Kingston Terrace (Jerningham to Francis Street) Stormwater and Streetscape Improvements

Feedback was carefully considered against budget, renewal requirements and asset condition, and option number 2 has been identified as the best solution.

The project will move to detailed design this financial year, with construction scheduled for the 2024/25 financial year. Further information can be found here.

Climate Action Plan

In May 2023, Council endorsed the Climate Action Plan 2022-25, following the conversations we had with you and the suggestions we received. The Climate Action Plan 2022-25 is now available to download at Carbon Neutral Adelaide. The plan documents our ongoing efforts in four themes: an electrified city, a mobile population, a green and resilient community, and a leading Council.

The 2020/21 Community Emissions Inventories are now available at Tracking city carbon emissions. We can now be proud that city-wide emissions have been decreasing, while the city itself has been growing. Between the 2007 and 2022 financial years our residential population grew by 41% and Gross Regional Product increased by 58%. Over this time, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 26%.
